St. Joseph Catholic Church, Cockeysville, MD
Peragallo Organ Company, Paterson, NJ
The installation of this organ – 87 total ranks of sound, digital and pipe – was part of a $7
million renovation of this 1800s church, transforming it from a cruciform 1950s-looking very dated and dark room into a basilica type worship environment. It is a tremendous success from every aspect of visual, aural, and worshipping assembly as primary symbol of the Liturgy.
Over a 2-3 year period I stayed close to the aesthetic decisions made by pastor Fr. Rick and
committees, to make sure that we were getting the best possible design and product and that
all in the worship space blended well. Over 2 years I worked with Peragallo Organ Company to design this instrument which I inaugurated under my hands and feet in recital on September 8, 2024. It is truly one of the most, if not THE most homogeneous instrument I have ever played.
It bears luxurious tonal color options which truly suit every type of organ literature and plays the
Liturgy with great depth and variance of inspirational sound. It has already been featured with 40 piece orchestra (with my playing of Guilmant Symphony No. 1 with the orch as part of the inaugural year of events), chorus of 100, Bach cantatas and chamber orchestra, and plenty more. It is a delight for me to once again have the opportunity to launch a new instrument with all the energy and concert life to surround it.
The organ and sanctuary is the inspiration for the Fine Arts Ministry Group at St. Joseph which I founded and oversee. Concerts and beyond, we wish to inspire people with a variety of the arts rooted in the treasury of the Church.
